Haniyeh urges Europe: Remove Hamas from terror group list
05.05.2009
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on Saturday urged the European community to remove Hamas and other Palestinian groups from their list of recognized terror groups, Ma'an news agency reported.
Haniyeh made his comments in a video address to the seventh conference of Palestinians living in Europe.
The Hamas leader said that his faction "has always been interested in openness to European countries" and said that he hopes to reconcile with the rival Palestinian Fatah faction, which is led by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
Haniyeh also called on European human rights' groups to send a fact-finding committee to Gaza to investigate alleged war crimes perpetrated by the Israel Defense Forces during its 22-day offensive to end rocket fire on Israel's southern communities.
The seventh conference of Palestinians living in Europe got underway in Milan on Saturday under the banner, "Right of return is nonnegotiable and will not be relinquished."
