"Sources" photo-exhibition is the first project of the State of Israel in Tula.

                  19.02.2003

This event became possible due to the initiative of the chairman of Tula Jewish community, Lev Raihlin, and the invitation of Tula Mayor, Sergey Kazakov. The official visit to Tula of the first secretary of the Israel Embassy in Russian Federation, Mr. Nissan Amdor, has been dated for opening the exhibition. Within the framework of the visit Mr. Amdor has met the executive director of Tula Administration V.Arsentjev. There also took place meetings with the TSPU rector, academician N.Shajdenko, and the TSU rector, academician E.Sokolov. In the TSPU Mr. Nissan Amdor has delivered the lecture in English about the situation in the Near East. Then Mr. Amdor has visited the Tula Jewish community (the chairman is Lev Raihlin) where he has met leaders of the city Jewish organizations.
Mr. Amdor has opened the photo-exhibition in the building of Tula Regional Scientific library. Among those who spoke at the solemn opening there was the chief of the department of culture committee Y.Konjahin; the chairman of Tula Jewish community Lev Raihlin; the prior of temples, the rector of Tula orthodox classical school, the head of the Theological Faculty, the senior TSU lecturer Lev Makhno; the rabbi Ariel Masalitin; the Tula Regional Scientific library director Larisa Koroleva who, on behalf of the library stuff, thanked Mr. Amdor for the rendered honor of organizing the exhibition within the library premise and expressed hope for the further cooperation between the Embassy and the library. Representatives of Azerbaijan and German Diasporas were also present at the exhibition. The "Sources" photo-exhibition opened in Tula can be considered as 30 stops on the way of historical development of three great world monotheistic religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Within the framework of the event the Embassy of the State of Israel in Russian Federation has presented Tula libraries and universities a selection of belles-lettres and historical literature, information materials devoted to the history of Jewish people and also to various aspects of life in Israel.
This photo-exhibition is the first large project of the Embassy of the State of Israel in Tula. We shall express hope that this step will become the beginning of fruitful cooperation between the Embassy and the city of Tula in the field of culture and education.
