A film archive named after Spilberg will appear on the web.

                  24.02.2003

The archive is the world's biggest collection of films on the topics of Jewish interest. It includes rare pictures from the times the cinema was just a new born baby, as well as rare footage of historical events. Bits from the archive's materials have been used for shooting numerous feature films, documentaries, and TV programs. Scientists used the archive to research the life of Jewish communities of the pre-war Europe. The archive has always been of great help to historians studying the Catastrophe and the history of the State of Israel.
One hundred and twelve films placed in the web are a first step forward to creating a virtual film archive. Four hundred more are to be placed in the next four years (one hundred per year). The address of the new site is: http://www.spielbergfilmarchive.org.il. The project has become possible due to donations gathered by the Association of American Friends of the Jewish University (AFHU) at the soiree honoring the Chairman of the American Cinema Association Jack Valenti.
The movies are divided into the following categories: Jewish communities, the Catastrophe and the Jews of Europe; Eretz-Israel in the pre-Jewish state epoch; the State of Israel; the Jewish university in Jerusalem.
