Festival of Ethnic Diaspora was held in Kostroma.

                  17.03.2003

Kostroma is a multiethnic town. In addition to the Russians, there are many Armenians, Tartars, Jews, Azerbaijanis, Dagestans, Chechens, Ukrainians, and Byelorussians living in the region.
There has not been any serious interethnic conflict in the town. However, every ethnic group lives in the world of its own and knows little about problems and success of others.
The ethnic diasporas had their first opportunity to represent themselves in full colors at the Ethnic festival this February.
The Festival of Ethnic Diasporas has shown that there is interest towards different ethnic groups populating the region. There even were not enough seats in the Hall of Philharmonics for all those wishing to attend the festival. Unfortunately, this was just a single occasional event.
The Council on Ethnic Affairs has decided to elaborate a special program of support for the ethnic autonomies of the Kostroma region. The program will be financed by the Region and by private sponsors.
